I am using a Cisco 1721 router in my test environment for CCNA. I do not know the password for en mode. I am only able to successfully get into user mode. Do I have to be in priv exec mode to reset password? Can I reset to factory defaults without being in priv exec mode if necessary? If yes, how do I reset this router back to factory defaults?

Almost any Cisco Password recovery method can be found on this Cisco web page: Password Recovery Procedures - Cisco Systems

The 1700's are under Access Products -- Password Recovery Procedure for the Cisco 1700 and 1800 Series Routers - Cisco Systems

The first thing I ever learnt about Cisco was the password reset, that's what comes from getting lab kit from mates I guess.
