STATIC VLAN QUESTION

KMAN24KMAN24 Member Posts: 44 ■■□□□□□□□□
I can't seem to wrap my mind around VLANS. Where I work we have a number of different VLANS. Why is it that if I am on Vlan 6 for example, I can still browse to the server vlan and any other vlan ? No matter what vlan I am on, I can still get to the other Vlans. I understand that trunking is allowing me to move amongst switches, but what is allowing me to operate in other vlans when my computer is plugged into a port that is set to vlan 6 ? I thought that being in a specific vlan would prevent me from getting to other vlans.

Thanks in Advance

There must either be a router on the network that interconnects the vlans...and you have permission to reach the other vlans, or a multi-protocol switch that performs layer 3 functions. Layer 2 switches can't interconnect vlans.
