need help getting setup

goal setup my laptop to run 2008 server as a bootable OS. So here is what I've done. Please point out the errors of my thinking or methods.

I've a new laptop vostro 3700,
-shrinked hd to two partions, on the second partion I formatted to ntfs.
- created four folders vhd-1, vhd-2 etc
- created a vhd disk it shows up as disk 1

When I boot into my laptop using the eval disk, I use diskpart to list partitions and it sees all partitions on disk 0. Come to think of it I forgot to check if it sees disk 1. hmmm by the time I get any response on this maybe I'll know that. Anyhow, when I boot the 2008 r2 dvd, it asks for a driver but does say which one it's trying to find. I put my windows 7 disk and searched the different directories without success on finding the driver it's really looking for. Any suggestions?
