Order to resolve a name

Hi

I am studying some networking things, and I can't find a definitive list of how the process goes.

Lets say I want to go to www.microsoft.com

1) check the dns cache
2) check the hosts file
3) check with the dns server

Is that the correct order?

Then lets say I want to ping server01

1) lmhosts
2) Wins server
3) dns server??

Is that how that goes?

I think its Self > cache > host file > lmhosts > dns server.
