We have an old 2600 and 3600 at our company we are using for a test lab. The 3600 has no FastEthernet NM so I have to connect it to the 2600 via V.35 cable.

I wanted to put newer images on the router that have k9 crypto.. simple enough I thought:

|3600|>---serial on 10.10.10.0/24--->|2600|---cross-over-on-192.168.100.0/24-->|PC|

So I have a default route set on the 3600 to the s0/0 on the 2600: "ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.2" and it can ping the fa0/0 address of the 2600 too, 192.168.100.105 but not the PC's address of 192.168.100.115.

It really doesn't get any simpler than this. PC can ping all IP's as can the 2600 but the 3600 cannot ping the PC! I have done the EXACT same network in Packet Tracer the EXACT same way and it works fine! You don't even need a routing protocol as they are just directly connected nets with a static on the 3600!

Please help me figure this out as it is making me feel dumb!

    Shazbot, also a good question. Good place to start when testing connectivity.

    looks like it was a problem with the Realtek Gigabit driver on my work computer, upgraded and it works fine.

    Guess it's like Cisco says, start at Layer 1 and work up.....

    Well that wasn't technically a layer 1 problem. But yeah, you're right.
