Please help, Problem with XP Create new folder on desktop

DazedDazed Member Posts: 16 ■□□□□□□□□□
When I Right-click on my Desktop and select New - Folder from the menu, I
get the following error message:

"Unable to create folder

Unable to create the folder 'New Folder'

There are no more files."

(Here is a link to an image of the error box:
http://home.comcast.net/~j_younger/Error_Message.JPG )

The same thing happens when I try to create a new txt message, a new bmp
image, etc., only instead of "folder," the error message says "file." This
is only happening on the Desktop... I can create new folders and text files
inside of other folders.

If anyone can help me on this, I would be much obliged.

is this your personal PC? Never seen that message before.. perhaps a permissions issue? Have you been fiddling with Group Policy? Too many files in the desktop folder??
I'm not a complete idiot... some parts are missing.

Anything in the System log? If there is, try searching for the event id at www.microsoft.com

Can you create a new file after you delete another?

"There are no more files." Another clear error message from MS... your files are no more.

Mine started out even worse this morning:
"The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block." ncool.gif

I would go alon gwith thinking the HD had errors or a system file was corrupt.

    Always pleasant.

Heh, went through something like that on Monday. Cept mine wasn't bad block... one of my 200 gig archive drives just decided it didn't have a partition table anymore. The OS saw it as Free Space and no bloody recovery tool I've run could recover the data from it. Every diagnostic I throw at it says the drive is fine though.

I think something frotzed with the drive controller of the box it was attached to, so it got moved and low-leveled. Now I just have to rip all my music to mp3 again and download a whole lot of PDF's to rebuild what was lost.

I swear to god I can't wait for my tax return. I am so building a raid5 array.
