I want to install CentOS on my vm lab box but the hard drive is small. It will only be used for snmp, just cacti. Suggestions?

A couple GB and turn off most packages? Just make a test VM and go through the installation process and see how much it wants to use. You can then delete that VM and make another one. I wouldn't make it smaller than 2GB though just in case you do need to use it for something else in the future.

What virtualization platform are you using? You should be able to use a dynamically expanding virtual disk in most cases. For Cacti keep in mind that it has a database back-end so you have to manage the data retention so the database doesn't grow too large.

VMware Server 2.0. Cacti will be polling less than 20 devices and I won't be using a ton of extensive graphs. Most of it will actually be for host down icmp alerts with the thold addon.
