New to scripting: VBS question

Like the title says...I'm new to scripting. I'm working on my MCSA/MCSE now and would like to learn some scripting on the side. I know that everything I read says to learn Powershell, and that sounds like a good idea. I just wonder about working with all the existing scripts in our environment. I've been here 6 months in Desktop Support and everything I've seen has been vbs.

Would it benefit me to learn vbs first so that I can work with/alter the scripts that we are using already? Or should I just focus my energy on Powershell and use the knowlege I gain from that to fumble my way through vbs files?

The answer to this might be more clear if I had more knowledge of scripting languages in general, but I know nothing about them. I took one C++ class in college and that's the closest thing to scripting I've ever done. I did enjoy writing code, though, so I'm looking forward to learning whatever language is going to benefit me most.
