joey74055 Member Posts: 216I'm not worried about someone here finding my resume online, they have zero time for that. Even if they did, I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. I will be straight up and let them know I am keeping my options open but I'm not actively applying anywhere.
Tomorrow I have an in person interview with the company that found me on Dice. I am meeting with three different people and have been through two phone screenings so far, so they must like me at least a little. Really promising company, keeping my fingers crossed!
Thats great! I know that Dallas has a huge IT market so if this doesn't pan out I know that you will find something. Truth be known, Dallas is probably the best place you can be right now in your career job wise. The economy is still good there and it is a hotbed for IT jobs, not a bad place to live either if you can get used to the traffic, lol -

You said it. That's why when I had the chance to move here I definitely took advantage.
I just got done with the interview. It went really well! They have one more person to interview and I will know if I got it by the end of the week. -

If there is anything I have learned in IT is that hard work WILL pay off. Always keep learning and pushing yourself. There is good jobs out there, you just need the skills and confidence to prove to them you are worth it.
Okay.. off to celebrate! -

Grats!
Is it rude if I ask things like:
What will you be doing exactly?
What's your title?
what kinda benefits?
what kinda Salary? Fixed raises?
What kinda work environment?
I'm always interested in people's jobs when they are that excited about it, especially in IT, lol. Congrats again~WGU B.S. Information Technology (Completed January 2013) -

Network Administrator. They haven't had an official IT department as they are a software consulting company, so most of the guys know what they are doing anyway. I get to organize everything and set standards, policies, security, images, etc. My first big project will be to move everything to their new building.
Benefits are pretty awesome. Medical, Dental, 401k, 10 days PTO accrued monthly, 8 paid holidays, etc. I will be getting a 12k bump in my salary so I will be at about 55k now. Not sure about raises but I can't complain anyway. Work environment includes a bunch of brilliant and easy going people. Relaxed, but everyone works hard. Supporting about 130 people at the moment, but they are growing pretty quickly.
By the end of the year I will have my Security+. They do training, mostly on software, but I saw they have a VMWare class.. totally going to get in on that! The VCP was next in line for me to snag anyway.
Very exciting! I feel very lucky. -

I've wanted this kind of role for a while so I will probably plateau and get really comfortable with this. Starting college next year, so when I am done with that I will be at the age where I will want to start popping out babies. My goal is to be financially ready for that and take on the mommy job while I go towards my next step. Right now security really fascinates me so maybe I will go that route. Or I might get into management after college. It just depends, but I am very happy with my life right now. -

I wish I could setup my own domain ETC. Just not in an educational environment (which is what I work with now), lol.
Nice solid salary and benefits too. Win!WGU B.S. Information Technology (Completed January 2013) -

Good news. Supporting a pure development environment can be demanding but very rewarding.
I landed a job just like that years back and was in a similar situation where they grew to a point where they needed a dedicated IT pro. I also relocated them to larger premises. They developed Java based foreign exchange trading instruments for the banks. The database was Oracle so we had a lot of Solaris testing and devlopment servers. PM me for advice. Sounds like you will be responsible for everything related to IT. Servers, routers, switches, , printers, accounts, backups, email, desktops, internet, firewall, maybe some unix/linux servers as well. -

I talk to my parents about this place and they know it's bad all over but they don't realize that how bad it is everywhere else is normal for here. The stock market figures continue to rise which for many people defies your analysis. But yes more and more mainstream folks will find it harder to obtain gainful employment. IT is a mass employer now but many jobs do not pay well.
