Greetings everyone. I've been browsing the forum for a few weeks and decided it's time to start contributing. I spent most of 2010 working on my MCITP-EA. Passed 70-640, 70-642, 70-643 and 70-647. The plan is to take 70-680 in February. I needed a break from MS and decided to get Sec+ (scheduled for next Tuesday) before the new requirements kick in. I followed everyone's suggestion of getting Darril's book and breezed through it over last two weeks. I am a seasoned IT professional so most of the topics were refreshers. We'll see how it goes next week.
Thanks to all of you who have posted reviews, resources, tips, etc.

citinerd Member Posts: 266Good luck! I am sure it will be fine since you used Darril's book. There are 2 guys where I work that plan on Sec + by the end of the year and I got both of them to buy Darril's book. Neither are members here.
I think as TE members that pimp the book (for good reasons of course) should get a kick back. Like more good writings of Darril Gibson. He needs to make M$ books less of a dry read and more interesting! -

I still "pimp" Darril's book even after I bought the Kindle version at full price. In retrospect, I could have called Amazon and requested a refund and then bought the book at $9.99, but f-it. I will go on record that I would have paid 4 times the current price!
I will also note that I would not have "pimped" his book if it wasn't such an excellent resource. I normally attack certifications with multiple avenues of study, and I would not have advised (prior to taking Security+) using just Darril's book. It was only until AFTER I passed that I realized that most of the exam was covered (and well) by Get Certified Get Ahead. I didn't need LabSim, Transcenders OR Sybex. However that isn't to say they aren't good resources...but if you want to pass Security, you spend the $9.99 and get to reading. You won't need ANYTHING else to pass.
One other thing of note, there were bound to be what we call "haters" trying to knock down his 5 star rating. I am glad that those tools got called on it. I don't see a dime from Darril...and if he ever wants to give me/TE a "shout-out", that'd be cool too. But if the resource is good, I will definitely say it is. If it's bad (like ExamCram) I will say that is too.cyberguypr wrote: »Thanks to all of you who have posted reviews, resources, tips, etc.
Good luck, welcome to TE, and I look forward to seeing your "passed" post. (I won't jinx anyone with an early congrats...lol....though if you used Darril's book, it's very hard not to early congratulate... )
