Desktop Support above or below support desk?

in the job food chain, I thought Help Desk or Support Desk was the bottom and you worked your way up, I was under the impression that Desktop Support was a step up from the desk...

but one of my co-workers at the Support Desk said he thought the Desktop Support guys got paid less than we did... does that make sense to anyone? is that the way it is everywhere?

Depends on the company. It looks like usually helpdesk is 1st line of support and then desktop support is 2nd line of support. Where I work there's 2 levels of helpdesk and then there's a 3rd level that's also remote but they handle more complex issues. Then after that it goes to desktop support.

A lot of smaller companies your helpdesk seems to be the system admin and their desktop support techs it seems.
