Help Desk Career Path

I was wondering what the career path is for a help desk technician ? if you stay on the job, where does it lead ?

    The end game limits are boundless. It comes down to how you target your career (other related IT experience, degrees, certs) and the breathe of movement offered by the company which you work for.

    Sometimes you may see the following:

    Help Desk T1 -> T2-> T3 or Technical Lead -> Specialized Project Manager

    As you progress to a management position, you will gain priceless knowledge about how the business is run and how your previous positions were being setup and ran.

    In terms of "help desk" as a role, I've seen that term used variably and the duties involved change drastically from company to company. Some may have you as a password ninja while other may make you resolve tickets, fix hardware, or support major design deployments.

    In the end, your career is what you make it. Think of helpdesk as an initial step (Tier I) into the unknown that is modern IT.
