Xw9400 Memory issues

I currently have a Xw9400 workstation with 2 Dual-Core Opterons but only 6 gigs mem (2X2 and 1X2), one of the 2GB DIMM's failed on me.
I want to fill one of the free dual mem slots with 2X4 DIMM's (8Gigs for 125$, this is a great deal; ECC as well), will this work on my workstation?
I can already run the machine just fine with 2 slots and then only 1 slot full, so mix and match for needing to do a dual mem config is already a lie HP has been caught on (Dirty, dirty lies
)
