Ping to TFTP server fails.... what's up?
kadshah
Hiya,
I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if this question has been asked a zillion time. I'm trying to complete Todd Lammle lab on pg 431 lab 9:2, 9:3. by uploading or downloading the flash to my TFTP server. I downloaded freeware software called Pumpkin i also downloaded solar winds TFTP server. Before uploading i wanted to test connectivity to my TFTP so i run the ping command from my cisco 2501 router console i ping the gateway i get a successful reply i ping my computer no reply. However i'm able to telnet from my computer at a DOS prompt into my router. I made sure that the TFTP is in server mode by checking the "transmit and recieve files" box. Still "nada" i'm sure I have overlooked something can someone help me out.
thanks,
Kaj

no idea what's wrong. If you can't even ping from your router to PC it's not the problem with TFTP server.

You've probably got a firewall enabled on your PC which is preventing you from receiving pings. If you can ping out from your pc, but can't ping in from your router or another pc...it's a firewall that's causing it to happen. Disable your firewall and give it a try.

i'll check to see if it's the firewall.

Bingo! Firewall disable ping successful.

If you are using the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) on Windows XP, you can read
here
how you can leave the firewall turned on, but allow incoming echo requests and other ICMP options as well as TFTP traffic or other services you run on your local machine.

ICS was off but i was running the firewall etrust EZarmor in the backround. I just added the IP address of my router to my trusted zone and presto works fine now.
thanks again
