IOS 12.4 "no network-clock-participate slot 1"

Hi Guys,

I have just updated my 2621XM with a new IOS, so I can do router on a stick. I put on IOS version 12.4 (c2600-ipbasek9-mz.124-17.bin), as the previous version was 12.1 and did not support the "encapsulation dot1Q 99 native" command.

Anyhow, the update went fine and the router seems to be working ok, but I have come across this in the running-config:
“no aaa new-model
no network-clock-participate slot 1
no network-clock-participate wic 0
ip cef”

And receive this when the router firsts boots or reloads

“Slot is empty or does not support clock participate
WIC slot is empty or does not support clock participate”

Current set up:
Slot 0: WIC 2T
Slot 1: WIC 1T
All three serial ports are working fine when connected to my other routers, just thought it was strange as it did not show up before updating the IOS.

Any thoughts / explanations would be much appreciated
Cheers

I wouldn't worry about it unless you lose functionality.

"No network-clock-participate slot" is the default so you should be fine. The error messages are just to alert you to possible problems, they are not trying to tell you that your slots are unpopulated.

12.1 to 12.4 is not really a common upgrade path, so some odd error messages should be expected.

Cheers mate, I thought that might be the case, the only reason I put 12.4 on is that I knew it worked for router on a stick, as it is the image I use in GNS3.

I don’t have a lot of time to try different IOS’s as I only have 3 weeks in between the different exploration courses at my local academy, and I need to do enough reading and labing to pass the online tests and skills tests, at the end of every 3rd week.
Packet tracer has been my friend up until now, but does not like it when I play around with switching, it just crashes. I do prefer using my own routers and switches, but the extra time it takes to set them up etc is a real killer.
i.e I spent 2 hours last night making up cables, and probably and other hour or so updating the ISO on my switches (Windows 7 firewall does not like TFTP). All of which I could have used for finishing the last chapter in CCNA3, and finally do some practice tests.
