DNS - LEarn from my error

About 4 months ago I began installing our production VMs. I installed about 8 servers and did a P2V on two physicals.
I took one of the physical machines that was an application server and did a format/reinstall and made it our PDC. First installed AD then transferred roles. When I installed AD I aparently did not setup the DNS Forwarders. All client systems use this DC as their primary DNS server.
Today email suddenly stopped flowing on servers in our domain. They started resolving the address of the relay improperly. It took 3 months before this became apparent... Go figure.
