Preparing for MCITP:EA

So I'm getting prepared for the MCITP:EA track and am wondering about a few things.

First for those who have MCSA/MCSE how do the MCITP track exams compare to the 2003 exams? The 291 was very tough and I am just wondering if I should expect the 2008 exams to be as or more difficult? Is there a 2008 "beast"?

I just want to make sure I prepare properly and focus more on exams that are harder etc...

I have my MCSA but am not taking the upgrade route as I'm a WGU student and WGU does not offer upgrade exams. Good thing is I took the 680 as a part of my MCSA so I wont need to worry about the client exam.

The beast for me was the 70-643. I take the 70-647 tomorrow and I've heard it's gotten harder.
The bad thing is that the exams are upgraded for 2008 R2 while there is NO study material for it. The best R2 book is Server 2008 R2 Unleashed but the Mastering Server 2008 R2 book is also good. Hold off on taking your MS exams until the new MS Press books come out that contain R2 content if you can.

I picked up the Mastering 2008 R2 book as I saw it being recommended around here. Also ordered the Sybex 3 in 1 2008 R2 guide.

Starting out with 640 there shouldnt be too much R2 specific content should there? Being that its AD has R2 really changed AD in some significant way?

Is the Network Infrastructure (642) not terribly hard then?

    Good luck tomorrow!

642 wqs the easiest of the 3 first exams for me. Check the sticky post http://www.techexams.net/forums/mcts-mcitp-windows-2008-general/42880-70-640-resources.html and it gives a list of skills measured and I attached a list with the changes highlighted. It actually looks as though the 640 has a lot of changes.

I took the old 640 so can't speak on the new format. However, there are a lot of changes in AD with R2 -- AD Recycle Bin and Administrator's Console are the two biggest I believe. I don't know how many questions there will be on the exam on those two topics though.

Doesnt look too bad, but yeah there does look to be some changes there.

    Thanks for info guys!

Still getting my lab setup, but I plan to hit these exams hard once I get all my materials together.

Hi bdub. I found the 642 easier than the 640. I've got a good networking background so that really helped me there.
The questions on the 640 were mainly R2 related when I sat it (as far as I can remember). Things like powerShell, AD recycling and various commands. You'll have a good background from the MCSA, but you'll need to really dive into the R2 stuff as they like to focus on the new shiney oooh-aaah tech, and there's enough of it to trip you up.
The 642 was quite R2 also, but had some subnetting and that kind of thing in it, so that made it a little easier for me.
The 643 was relatively easy for me. I'd covered a lot of the virtualisation material between the 640, 642, 680 and 646. It also really helped that I got so lucky on the questions I was asked.
I thought I'd covered about all the virtualisation I needed for the 647 because of the 643. I was wrong. I was asked a bunch of questions that I should have covered better, so watch out for that kind of thing when it's your time. I'm sure if you check the threads here, you'll get an idea of most of what's being asked at the time.
