learning java
So I'm taking a intro. programming course that's part of a diploma program and we have to learn java.
I have a book but the wording isn't very helpful.. Basically they just spit out syntax but don't explain the reasoning behind it.
Can anyone recommend and books/videos that can get me up to speed?? Remember it's an intro. course, nothing too deep. So far I'm pushing 100%, but it was mostly Alice (lol) up to this point. 1 month left in this course, don't wanna fold!!!

Amazon.com: Head First Java, 2nd Edition (9780596009205): Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates, Bert Bates: Books
I like how it is very readable and so far I am enjoying it. It is similar to the For Dummies type of books, if you have ever read any of those before. -

Bruce Eckel's MindView, Inc: Free Electronic Book: Thinking in Java, 3rd Edition -

Amazon.com: Java: How to Program, 8th Edition (9780136053064): Harvey M. Deitel, Paul J. Deitel: Books
No it's not cheap, but if you are going to use Java in the future or take additional programming courses it is a must have for your library. -

I have read the Deitel book as well and can say that I agree with this statement. It's a good one. -
