I've never had an IT job but I have banking experience/Finance degree and school experience with IT along with currently studying for certs. I applied for a Banking Tech position and I now have a second interview! :D

If someone else has a similar position or works in IT for a bank can you describe to me your day to day operations?

Thank you!

When you have a 2nd interview, that's a good sign. If you get a chance, and they ask you, do you have any questions for me...and they haven't explained the "day to day" functions of the job to you yet, then that would be a good time to ask. The job description will give you an idea of the position, but won't give you the full scope of it till you start a job. Yet with any job, regarding if it's in banking or not, will be different.

I have a friend that works for a large bank, he has also worked on many different contracts at various companies. He tells me that overall the work is the same (The bank does work him more, but the work is not different).

The main issue is that the bank takes forever to approve a process, there are multiple meetings needed just to perform tasks that he could perform without asking at other companies. The bank runs a tight ship when it comes to making any changes.

He is a DBA, so he can't speak for other aspects of their IT infrastructure.
