Lee H Member Posts: 1,135The mobo is an i5 socket about 12 months old so its quite new
Is it very likely that this ASUS board will work the SSD to full speed
also is SATA 3 port 6Gbps interface
Thanks. -
Lee H Member Posts: 1,135Just found out now the MOBO is a P7P55D Rev 1 which has 2 x 6Gbps ports
With an i5 plus 8 gig or RAM will I see a noticeable difference by upgrading from a Vertex 1 to a Vertex 3. -
Lee H Member Posts: 1,135Bought the Vertex 3 120Gig drive today and came home to find my MOBO does not have a 6Gbps port
Can anyone recommend a utility that can show me the SSD's current read and write speed

I need to purchase this but I am googling it for images and cant for the life of me figure out were the dam SATA cable would plug into, nothing on these pictures is showing me a typical SATA port like you see on a MOBO

Lee H Member Posts: 1,135Considering this is a VERTEX 3, is this normal results for a 3Gbps port?

Would a 6Gbps controller card require any drivers, if I pop it in and simply connect the VERTEX 3 to it will my PC then just boot up
As I have ASUS mobo would this be recommended

Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□You might be lucky and might not need to install a SATA driver. If it's Windows 7 then I would guess you'll be fine.
-
Lee H Member Posts: 1,135So will my BIOS be able to boot this drive once its connected to the CARD without having to press a certain key to install 3rd party drivers, do you know what am getting at?.
-
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□I know what you mean, yeah, you should be OK if it's Windows 7, if it's Windows XP then you will probably need the drivers. At worst at least with Windows 7 you can access the drivers using USB instead of a floppy drive with XP.
-
Lee H Member Posts: 1,135Are they meant to be plug and play or are all these controller cards classed as 3rd party
Reason I ask is I am giving the PC back to my friend and might advise him to buy and install this card, he has installed PCI cards before but don't think he will be able to follow his nose regarding drivers on boot-up. -
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□Like I say it'll depend on the OS, if it's Windows 7 you should be able to plug in to the card and boot from it straight away. If it's XP it'll be a nightmare to get working properly, and will probably require complete reinstall etc. They are 3rd party cards but should work Plug and Play with Windows 7.
