Samoa to Change Time Zones - The Daily Beast#
Other than a catastrphic failure of hardware this has to be a DBA/BI person's worst nightmare. Managing and dealing with calendars is bad enough under normal situations. Everyone thinks they know what words like "work day" and "year" mean but they are really abstract, maliable ideas. Then your country goes and says we are going to have two 06/07/211s this year. WTF!?!?

Would you want to be one of the few people in Somoa who do data warehousing? I would not. My vote would be ignore it and pretend like it never happened. -

If anyone has ever had to deal with the U.S. DST shift, then you know that caused issues with messaging systems. I can see the same exact thing in this case.
Wonder how vendors are going to patch around this one.
This affects if you schedule any meetings with people from that area. It'll be like, do you mean June 7, or do you mean June 7? or 6? or 8? I mean, seriously?
They basically have a leap-year condition, and they may have to do a little bit of coding to handle it properly. (except, this is worse than a leap-year condition, as leap-year is universal, and inserts an additional day in the Calendar. This one uses the same date twice. I mean, seriously, June 7a, or June 7b? There would have to be a sub-designation, LOL.)
Also, the Samoa people apparently conflict with what the ruler of Samoa wants. I would really like the American Samoa slant on this story. I see it as a possible positive (if the move brings more tourism for both places).
Also, it is not genuine to say it'll hurt business much with American Samoa. They'll figure it out LOL.
True Samoan conversation:
Husband: "Hey, honey, I have a business meeting for lunch at future Samoa."
Wife: "OK, make sure to call me tomorrow when you land, and when you get back today, I'll have dinner ready for you."
It's kinda crazy. It'll be lunchtime, and you'll be looking forward to eating dinner yesterday .... hehehehe.
EDIT: I seriously think people would start to call it "Future Samoa" to remind themselves about the day difference.Currently Working: CCIE R&S
