The only way to get a clearance is to be assigned to a position that requires one. You cant just go get a clearance on your own, its not a cert. If you get hired into a position that requires a clearance the company will have to initiate a background investigation and depending on the level of the clearance needed it can take over a year to get it through the adjudicators. If you have lots of foreign contacts it can add lots of time to it.

I would appreciate any advice for obtaining I.T. contract work overseas (Afghanistan/etc.) I’m open to any position, and am willing to travel up to 100%
Currently, I have the following Certifications: Net+/Security+/CEH-Certified Ethical Hacker (Associates in Computer Science) I am also seeking advice on obtaining the appropriate security clearance, and any insight/advice on using headhunters, etc.
Honorably discharged from US military (8-years)
I’m currently employed with Comcast as a Help-Desk Technician (8-years)
Any Advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!!!!

OK im not familiar with IA or DIACAP. Maybe i was looking at the salaries wrong but do people get paid 180k just for doing Government I.T work Over Seas, or am i mistaken.

as an IA with CISSP, yes, you get paid upwards of $180+

    Helpdesk Administrator = $115,000 + $15,000 upon completion, +$5,000 travel and sign-in bonus

Network Administrator and Systems Administrator = $160k, roughly.

If you want to be a Sys Admin, get your 70-640 and you will be golden. This is not a mistake, you only need 70-640 to be a Systems Admin. That's way better than being a Helpdesk.

do yourself a favor, get an ADPE job. ADPE are like PC Techs, but all they do is load the base image on machines. ADPE Techs do not even repair computers, that's Toby Hanna's job. Plus, ADPE Techs get paid $1 more than Helpdesk Administrator.
