WIC port for 1760

binaryhatbinaryhat Member Posts: 129
Hello,

I'm getting ready to buy my lab gear. I already have a 2950 switch, will get a second one too.

I would like to get 2x1760 routers (cheaper than the 26xxXM series) but I am unsure about the right WIC for ethernet ports. Some guidance/insight would be helpful.

I would need to make sure the 1760 comes with WIC-1ENET?

Do you require a 2nd Ethernet port? The 1760 already have one builtin 10/100 Ethernet port.

Most used routers come without WICs, and for the few that have one, it's usually ISDN which is pretty useless in a lab.

The 1760 already has one Ethernet port, which should be enough for now.

    I plan on getting 2x1760's.

The IOS is c1700-y7-mz.124-21. Cisco 1760 Router with 32MB Flash / 64MB DRAM Memory. Adequate yes?

Since my 1760's didn't come with Serial cards, I'll need 2 WIC-1T serial cards and one DB60 DTE to DB60 DCE cable correct?

That depends on what kind of topologies you want to set up. No frame relay router? Sure, that's enough.

    Current gear:

    2x1760
    2x2950

Is having a third router for frame relay in CCNA labbing required?

Depends on your definition of required. icon_wink.gif

I would certainly recommend it. For me, it was one of the hardest concepts to learn. And, apparently, I'm not alone. Check this poll out.
