Where to find a updated IOS?

in CCNA & CCENT
Hi,
I've got hold of switch which I'm hoping to use for my CCNA, but the switch seems to be 4 years old.
Is there any way I can update the IOS, I went to the Cisco website but it requires a login.
Thanks

As far as I'm aware switch IOS can be obtained from the cisco site without a support contract - only router IOS need that. You do need a guest CCO account though. I might be wrong.Going all out for Voice. Don't worry Data; I'll never forget you

It used to be free for the switch IOS, but I guess things have changed. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

Yes, back when it was a younger, friendlier world, switch IOS was free to download........I usually hang out on 224.0.0.10 (FF02::A) and 224.0.0.5 (FF02::5) when I'm in a non-proprietary mood.

Is this the 2900XL switch you mentioned in the other thread? They're pretty old and what you have on it may be as good as you're going to get. -

Did you do a
Router# show version
to see which IOS you have already installed on it? If you use that command, look for the line that says
System image file is ___________.
Alternately, you can do a "show run" to look at your running config, and it will tell you what version you have at the top.
If it's anything 12.x or greater, you should be fine. -

Just found and tested.
IOS updates can be downloaded from Cisco website once registration is complete.
Only for switches -

Yea, I was thinking I downloaded an IOS for one of my switches about 6 months ago.
You do have to create an account, but it was free last time I accessed them.CISSP | CCNA:R&S/Security | MCSA 2003 | A+ S+ | VCP6-DTM | CCA-V CCP-V
