I have a question is it possible to back up the data on a windows NT 4.0 File server that is running service pack 6.0 to a Hard Disk, in the event that the tape drive in the machine goes down.
The NT Backup utility in this version does not allow for backup to Hard Disk so most likely i will have to be looking at a third party software to accomplish this task.
So my question is can anyone please recommend a third party utility that can be used to backup the data to a hard disk or possibly backup the data on to another machine on the network.
Thanks in advance,,,,,

You could also xcopy drive data to another drive share but it'd be a better shotgun taget than anything else! -

At the very least you might be able use Disk2VHD to get a copy of the hard drive in question and this could be run via a batch file on a schedule. Although xcopy would probably be better in that situation.

To be completely honest I am trying to help a former colleague of mine who actually works in a major financial institution that is actually still running a NT server that has a broken tape drive. This company makes millions of dollars and for the past 15 years could find a cent to upgrade any thing just because management's idea of Servers is once its not broken don't fix it..anyways that's besides the point but it really annoys me to see big companies make such poor decisions.
Anyways thank you for the advise it is much appreciated, my advise to my friend was to get a new job.
