Newbie in Enterprise Systems Management

I just started my internship today (yesterday was only orientation), and I have to say I find this ESM thing so overwhelmed when I looked at the whole picture. I am working for a large corporation, and we are suppose to support our clients globally. I didn't really start anything as of right now since they haven't set up my computer yet, so I was studying (trying not to cram or overkill it) their whole architecture to try to get an idea what I will be dealing with when time comes. I wasn't able to gather all the documentations I needed to help me understand what the whole picture was like as my managers were busy with a couple of things. Plus, they were waiting on my computer to arrive. I am suppose to do some monitoring and provide service supports to clients whenever they are having problems. Yet, I am not exactly sure how it works though.

Do anyone have any experience in Systems Management? I want to know what your experience is like when you first work in ESM.
