serial connection
xwesleyxwillisx
Is it possible to connect a 1700 series router to a 2500 series router via serial? Would you just use a null modem cable with the appropriate connection for the V.35 interfaces? I just know that the routers have different looking serial interfaces. But it sounds plausible to me and I am just curious. Thanks.

which model of the 1700 series do you have? what serial module has it got in it? I assume from your desciption it has a smart serial, if so you can buy a smart serial to serial on Ebay, best person for this is a user called anthonypanda who regularly sells these for about $6.00
Failing that you may need to buy a wic-1t to go in one of the Wan slots then you need a standard serial back to back cable

I don't have a 1700 or 2500 router... but I was looking into getting a 1720 and a 2501... the 1720 had the WIC with the serial interface just like the 2501... so I guess then the serial (null modem) cable will work fine?

this is the type of cable needed for that
