Tips for learning on the job

It is a sign of the times that I am starting to get old. I no longer soak in knowledge like a sponge.
Today is the first day on my new job and i have a TON of stuff to learn. The industry, the software, the "best practices", the hierarchy, etc etc.
i spent most of the day shadowing my coworkers and I made a bunch of notes. But whereas in the past my simplistic note taking took back seat to just remembering everything I think I'm going to have to up the ante.
Long post short - any of you have any tips on learning quickly on the job?

2. Figure out the standard communication protocolS. I'm not referring to tcp/ip though, I'm referring to emails, meetings, greetings, and how you're generally expected to talk to the customer.
3. Don't worry about it.
If you don't mind coming home in the evening and reading over some stuff to get tightened up for work, you'll be sitting good, soon enough.
Hope this helps.Currently Working: CCIE R&S
