career dilemma

Performance review is coming soon. I *may* get promoted but it's also the same time I'm looking for external opportunities at other organizations. This promotion is mostly a title change but it's not my career path that I want to pursue. This is why I am looking for another job elsewhere.

1 . If a promotion comes (whether it's title change or small bump in salary), should I take it? What happens if I am able to secure a full time job at another organization AFTER a few weeks of promotion? Will it look bad on me?

2. What should I put in the goal/plan section? I honestly can't think of any possible opportunities within the company that I like. This is why I don't have any goals to put. The job I like within the company will take at least three-four years to get and I rather get this position asap through job hopping. Putting something like "work hard" in the goal section doesn't sound good. Advice?

I"m in the middle of a review vs looking for external opportunities. I was hoping that I could leave before I get the review. Suggestion?

If it's a better opportunity, the company potentially hiring you wouldn't blame you for wanting to improve your situation. For me, I can't get past "feeling guilty" over situations like that, even if it is unfounded. Personally, I will not do something unethical, but beyond that, I'm going to do what is best for me and my family. I hope you do the same.

I usually just go ahead and state my goals, irrespective of whether I think they are achievable or not. If you would eventually like to be in a particular role, I think it's OK to say so.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
