Honestly, it's about time some common sense was applied to financial aid. So many employers provide tuition reimbursement anymore it is crazy. Further, anyone wanting to go into a serious professional program will be getting paid enough to handle it.

And if I am going to be completely truthful, all government provided financial aid is pretty bad for education. It is the single greatest contributor to rising tuition costs; hey, more financial aid is out there... let's raise our tuition so that we can get a bigger cut. Schools of all kinds, be they "non-profit" or for-profit, scam students out of money. And there is truthfully no such thing as a non-profit school... or a non-profit organization, for that matter. When you look at the big organizations out there that get a large take of the funds... you see outrageously inflated salaries and benefits.

    /rant

Sorry about that. Don't get me wrong, I have taken advantage of these programs... but as someone that has witnessed the systems, I can speak from experience. I have dealt with great teachers and lousy teachers. The lousy teachers would be tossed on their rears if education were ran like any other random business.

I agree. The subsidized loans for education only cause an "education bubble." This is what typically happens whenever the government gets involved with injecting funds into anything, it just inflates the costs of the services, due to more money being out there to be taken. For additional information, see housing, and medicine :D

As someone who does is not on a tea bag rant, this basically means that if someone is going to take the maximum amount ($20,500), those folks will now have the juice/vig on as soon as they take the loan for the whole amount instead of having a part of it. In turn, a lot of people are going to get free money courtesy of me and millions of other taxpayers. (Once I hit a certain amount in salary, I stopped qualifying for any sort of grant...including Pell.)

    This truly sucks.

    Well...there's always this:

    Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

Folks, get yourself that nice federal or state job somewhere. After 120 payments, the loan is gone, regardless of the amount you'd have left.

I don't see how the logical solution to this problem is screw the kids getting the education. Are you suggesting that hitting the students harder will have an impact or act as an deterrent on private sector greed?

What? This reeks of Tea Part angst. I can't really discern what you're attempting to get at here, so if you'd like to clarify I'd love to hear it (especially your connections to housing and medicine).
