Went on an interview for an IA Auditor position a few days ago. It's at the corporate building for a company next city over from me. They have sites in 48 states and a lot of employees. Anyways, I thought the interview went great with HR, then she left for a bit and went to go talk to the CIO. She came back about 20 minutes later, I assume they were talking about me. She comes back and says the CIO really wants to talk with me but is stuck in meetings all afternoon and if I could come back after five. I said sure so I left and came back a few hours later.
Interview with him went fine, had a hard time reading him and I had a feeling of dread in my stomach when he checked my previous salary which was on the high end since I was a dod contractor. I left and was like "meh".
Two days later HR calls me and said the CIO liked me and asked if I was still interested. I said "yes" but inside I was like "oh he** yes!". She went over some information and said if this progresses she will get in touch with me.
The next day I get a call back and said the company was putting together an offer package and I should get it early next week and they can negotiate from there, went over benefits, holidays, etc.
Big, big, big reason I wanted this job was because I am no longer a contractor!!! The position is new because they are creating an IA Auditor department. I will be by myself creating their auditing framework, risk assessments, redoing policies, etc. Then once I get that done they are going to hire junior auditors to work under me and make me the manager for the department. They have 48 states worth of stuff so they wanted somebody to design the framework and hire junior people to do the day to day stuff.
I have to go buy some new clothes though since I will be working alongside the executives, going to meetings, advising, etc but I am fine with that lol.
And what helped a ton? They liked how I had my CISSP and experience but they were impressed I was taking the GIAC G2700 iso 2700 specialist exam. I didn't say I had to take it because I was going to WGU...
Oh and I exhausted my unemployment benefits last week and was about to start emergency, which means I just crossed that horrible six month unemployed mark... So I got really, really, lucky.

I was out of school and unemployed, and didn't have any luck finding jobs around school until I decided to leave school for good and return home. Around the same time, I just got a phone call, which led me to this internship nears home, and I was glad that I got saved from going down the drain. I was in some serious petty debt that minimum wage jobs could not pay off.

Any particular reason why you seem not thrilled with being a contractor, aside from benefits perhaps or been there done that?
Congrats!I usually hang out on 224.0.0.10 (FF02::A) and 224.0.0.5 (FF02::5) when I'm in a non-proprietary mood.

Congrats!
There was nothing wrong with being a contractor back when I started in IT because the dot.com boom was strong and work was easy to get. Then as I advanced I noticed more and more sometimes that a contractor was technically not an employee but some places made you feel like you were not an employee. I was a direct hire at my previous defense contractor job and when contracts started drying up the word came down to get rid of the "red" badges, I think it was red but it was a different color than ours. Those were the contractors. The direct hires were moved around to save them from being laid off.
Also my last job we did not get the next contract so some of us were laid off. I know getting laid off can happen to anybody but it always seems the contractors are the most expendable.
Also I wanted to move up in a company and this position will allow me to do that.
