Especially annoying for us who need to renew it for "free" until February 29th considering the lack of trainings material.
Anyway, I pre-ordered quite a few books but pretty much all release dates are being pushed back so here I thought I compile a list for you who are interested.
Released
Trainsiginal vSphere 5 CBT: Order here - $397
VMware vSphere 5 Clustering Technical Deepdive ; Available in various formats / prices
Unreleased
Mastering VMware vSphere 5 : Amazon, by Scott Lowe - pushed back to October
Professional vSphere 5: Implementation and Management : Amazon, by John Hales - pushed back to January 2012
Storage Design and Implementation in vSphere 5.0 (VMware Press) : Amazon, by Mostafa Khalil - pushed back to February 2010
VMware vSphere 5 Administration Instant Reference : Amazon, by Christopher Kusek - pushed back to December
Your best bet to prepare for the exam really is
1. Download the official documentation (now in Kindle format too) HERE
2. Download the product and labs, labs, and more labs HERE
Some details in how to run vSphere 5 nested (vSphere on vSphere), have a look HERE
Another good resource, with a lot of useful information, is Yellow-Bricks, run by VMware's very own Duncan Epping. Or also informative, NTPRO.nl, run by Eric Sloof.

jibbajabba Member Posts: 4,317 ■■■■■■■■□□Wow David and Eli put out that training quick!
Thank God they did, otherwise we'd be on "the dry" until exam time in Feb. ... Having said that - as VCP3/4 holder "all" we really should have to learn are the "what's new" part - that is the theory anyway lol .. I am already through 5 lessons on the trainsignal ones .. nice .. as usual ...My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -
scott28tt Member Posts: 686 ■■■■■□□□□□I should add to this thread that the official vSphere 5: What's New training course is available now, whilst it's not mandatory for a VCP4 holder to take this training until the end of February 2012 it is still a valuable resource. It also gives VCP3 holders an "upgrade" option today too...VCP2 / VCP3 / VCP4 / VCP5 / VCAP4-DCA / VCI / vExpert 2010-2012

jmritenour Member Posts: 565The Kindle Edition of Mastering vSphere 5 by Scott Lowe is available for purchase and download as of 9/29. At $47.99, it is significant more expensive than the paperback edition. ITdude Member Posts: 1,181 ■■■□□□□□□□Thanks for the link. Good stuff!I usually hang out on 224.0.0.10 (FF02::A) and 224.0.0.5 (FF02::5) when I'm in a non-proprietary mood.

I agree. It really sucks, because all things being equal, I'd rather have all my books in Kindle format where available. It's great to have my entire tech library at my fingertips, plus the text to speech function is awesome. I have a hour + commute to work, so it's great to have the Kindle read to me. I've been able to cut through Shon Harris's CISSP All-In-One book pretty quickly thanks to being able to make use of that 2 hours of road time a day.
But I'm not going to pay significantly more for the convenience of having it on Kindle. I'm not sure if this is a publisher gaffe, or Amazon, but either way, I don't feel like I need this book that badly."Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible; suddenly, you are doing the impossible." - St. Francis of Assisi -

A shame kindle on the ipad / iphone doesn't do that - that would be awesome - my commute is about 1hr40 per way so that would be nice .. not going to buy a kindle now too - but interesting none the less.My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -

I did order it from the US though as there is always a very long delay until books are available in the UK ..
Ah well .. My manager doesn't care when / if I put it through as expenses so I don't really care about the premium for having the kindle edition - still think a $20 increase compared to the hardcopy is daylight robbery....My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -
skinsFan202 Member Posts: 87 ■■■□□□□□□□I just got my copy of Mastering VSphere 5 today from Amazon. Coming from someone who knows diddly squat about virtualization, I like the way the first few pages are written. It's very easy to digest

I'm trying to hold off reading it so I don't confuse v5 details with v4.x and screw up my DCA exam.CERTS: VCDX #110 / VCAP-DCA #500 (v5 & 4) / VCAP-DCD #10(v5 & 4) / VCP 5 & 4 / EMCISA / MCSE 2003 / MCTS: Vista / CCNA / CCENT / Security+ / Network+ / Project+ / CIW Database Design Specialist, Professional, Associate

tbgree00 Member Posts: 553 ■■■■□□□□□□I started reading my mastering vsphere 5 this weekend as well. I'm going through it very easily, trying to pick up on stuff that may be on the test. I have the study guide above printed out as well. I have two weeks until my test and am starting to feel the pressure. I hope to have it finished before my vacation in November, so I have a day for a retake in there if I fail. Hopefully not though!I finally started that blog - www.thomgreene.com
