Is my degree enough?

Hello,
I recently graduated from college with a B.S in Biochemistry. Like other people this economy has been rough for finding an entry level job in that field. I worked a job before college in Tech Support and have recently gotten another temporary (6 month) one. I'm actually enjoying the computer field and I would like to get my certs and even considering staying in the IT field.
Do I need to get a degree in computers to go with certs I receive? Or is a science degree enough with certifications?

Thank you for the quick response. I just was unsure since it is not my field if people would look down on it or think it's not enough. So I guess I just need to start getting those certs. Thanks again -
