hey guys im thinking of purchasing this book does anybody which versions of Linux I need to do the labs.?

I took a quick look at the book... it specificly mentions using the Debian package manager, so you will want Debian or a Debian based distribution (like Ubuntu). However it also has you using "rpm", which is for RedHat and RedHat based distributions, so you'll want one of those (like CentOS or Fedora). OpenSUSE also uses rpms. So that should at least get you started.
