I'm new to this forum which has been very helpful in my search for a job in the IT Industry. I have three plus years as a Tier 1 Help Desk Analyst and finally became fed up dealing face to face customers. I recently posted my resume and got and hit for a NOC System Analyst position my interview is slated for next week. My question is would you guys have any insight to any questions to ask and what would be better topics to study for the interview.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If their website lists "over 2000 WAP's supported", mention something like "It is really impressive that this company supports 2000 WAP's over the Northeast region! What monitoring system is in place to assess their status?" or something to that effect. Use your broad Help Desk knowledge to ask generalized Network-related questions, since NOC positions typically deal with tier-1 response (to networking issues) and monitoring of systems.

i got a lot of blank stares on that one and then when some folks only rambled off A, B and C ranges I asked for the rest and I got the deer in the headlights look....
also do research on them and make sure to actually have some good questions lined up when they end their part of the interview and ask if you have any questions.
go in confident, but not too confident and end the interview with saying something like I look forward to working with you, etc.... it really helps to close the interview on a good foot."Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati" (when all else fails play dead) -Red Green -

I just went on one of these interviews, internal to my organization. The questions they asked were as follows:
What is a VLAN?
What is IPSec and how is it utilized in relation to a VPN?
What is the OSI model?
How would you troubleshoot collisions on a switch?
What is the difference between a Layer 2 switch and a hub?
Not a difficult set of questions, but the analysts senior to me had trouble answering them. Which is why I got the job.
Studying for CCENT really made the interview a cake walk for me. Anyway, best of luck to you, hope the interview goes well.MCP, HDI-SCA, MCDST, Network+, MCTS: W7C, MCITP: EDST7, BS: MIS

I like this one because it trips up those who cant think on their feet and/or memorized, brain-dumped, etc.
If they are really green (and I mean really really green, since most in IT could take a guess and probably get it right), I wont knock them too hard for not knowing something that doesnt "really" exist but I have other questions that I like to ask to that tell me how well the person might be able to adapt.Currently Working On: Openstack

Would it have been inappropriate to laugh at that question?
As to the OP, do your homework/research. Know the company, know what is expected of you and what your job duties will entail. Ask specific questions that may be grey on the job description.WGU Progress BSIT:NA | Current Term:1 | Transfered To-Do In Progress Completed
