davidspirovalentine
Hi Team,
I can't get Cellular 0 to use ppp encapsulation:
Router(config-if)#encapsulation ppp
Cellular0: Only SLIP encapsulation supported
Router(config-if)#
This is on a Cisco 881G, the IOS is below
Router#sh ver | i bin
System image file is "flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.151-4.M1.bin"
Router#
Any Ideas? Anyone come accross this before?
Thanks in advance.

Hi David,
I am currently stuck at the same issue.
I have a Cisco 881G with PCEX-HSPA-3G card for which I have successfully configured for internet.
As the above one has come to end of life, we got the replacement 881G with embedded 3G modem.
Could you please help me if you found any solution??
Thank you
Arjun

Hi there,
Have also got a embedded 3G in a 881 and also a 3G WIC in a 1921 and both do not support encap PPP and I searched for answer also. However, I have no issue using encap SLIP though. From my research it shouldn't be an issue because the encapsulation is apparently used for the communication between IOS and the modem firmware... as explained in this following post
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-18957
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Benny
