Cert path getting sidetracked

I was planning on upgrading VCP4 to VCP5 then march down MCITP:EA, but due to lack of knowledge at work I'm being nudged towards MCITP: DBA. Not sure how I feel about this. There's a reasonable synergy between VCP & MCITP:EA, but VCP & MCITP: DBA feels like going in opposite directions.
Anyone have any insights they'd care to share with me?

None. Expect to say they have you doing what they want you to do. Is DBA what you want to do? It takes 5+ years to be a good DBA on an enterprise level. Skills can still be useful if you get a taste and move into other areas. Some aspects of DBA work are transferable across platforms but not all. An ace SQL server DBA will die in an Oracle environment without time to adapt. The converse is also true.
