Advice on starting out in security

Hi guys,
Apologies if this has been discussed prior to this thread being created, if so please post the relevant link.
I have recently started working for a small IT company as a network administrator and part of my contractual agreement is to achieve training to a certain level. After discussing this with my line manager he suggested that I take the MCITP:SA (server administrator) route.
I have already made steady progress with the first module (70-640), and have a pretty simple question as to where to go in terms of certs, after I complete the MCITP.
I would like to go into specialising in security, and more specifically in penetration testing and vulnerability assessment. Which cert would be best suited for these needs, should I be looking at doing the security+, or having already done the MCITP:SA, should I be looking into doing the ICS2 SSCP?
Or is there another route that you guys would recommend?
Really appreciate you taking your time to read this and hope I don't come across as a "noob", just trying to get as much info as possible on where to go after this
Thanks,
Sunny
