You need to know how EIGRP calculates its metric, how it finds the best path, how it finds the alternate path, and pretty much how EIGRP works, so my answer is yes.

It will be extremely helpful to understand the DUAL equation and memorize it. If you apply that knowledge while you're labbing, you'll get a better understanding of how EIGRP works and thus be well prepared for that portion of the ROUTE exam.
