suspending a VLAN on a VTP client
vinbuck
So i'm working on lab 2-1 in the SWITCH NetAcademy manual and the last part of the lab deals with suspending a VLAN in a VTP domain.
According to the lab manual...
Note: The suspend state is advertised by VTP while the lshut state is not. The state suspend command can be issued on any switch in the VTP domain. It does not have to be issued on the VTP server. Both options can be used to temporarily take a particular VLAN out of operation which can be useful in certain scenarios - especially for guests, infrequently used conference rooms and similar deployments.
However, according to my 3550...
ALS1(config)#vlan 120
VTP VLAN configuration not allowed when device is in CLIENT mode.
I don't seem to be able to get to the vlan config section to issue a state suspend or shutdown command on the VTP client...is this switch specific or is the lab manual wrong?

# vtp mode server
You can't make changes on a switch in client mode. Also, the above command assumes version 1 or 2 of VTP. Version 3 is a bit different, and you would need to be primary server.

The lab manual is wrong. I remember this from my SWITCH studies
