Performance Monitoring on remote pc...

I am unable to successfully configure Performance Monitor to monitor a remote pc in a Workgroup environment. The pc's in the Workgroup are networking ok but are not listed in the 'add counters' drop down list in Performance Monitor\Performance Logs and Alerts\New Log Settings\Add Counters\Select counters from computer.... \\etc... even typing in the correct path does not work for me...
I have tried disabling Windows Firewall and checked running Services... is there a specific service that needs to be activated first?
Can anyone please advise, it would be appreciated....
