Terminiology question in STP (Spanning tree protocol)

I thought network segment means a collection of devices connected to a certain switch. If this is the case, how could a network segment can be connected to two more than one switches as the diagram shows....
The collection of bridges in a local area network (LAN) can be depicted as a graph whose nodes are bridges and LAN segments (or cables), and whose edges are the interfaces connecting the bridges to the segments.

sizeon Member Posts: 321I thought that anything in the same subnetwork is considered a network segment. Thus anything with the same network address is in the same network segment.

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModUsually when discussing STP a newtwork segment is a single link (or multiple in a LAG) between two switches.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

As shown in the diagram, it looks like the LAN segments are not the whole layer2 subnet, but something smaller than that. -
