Samsung drive faulty

Do Samsung own Seagate or do Seagate own Samsung, or neither?
I was directed to Seagate to check a warranty status on a HDD
I have small black number on the drive next to some chinese 2009.12 which I assumed was the date of manufacture, and on Samsung website they say 24 Months is the warranty on a HDD
Can anyone clarify this,

I'm pretty sure Samsung sold their HDD operations to Seagate not too long ago.:study:
