Will this 1760 router be upgradable to 12.4T?

I am looking to build a home lab for studying for my CCENT and CCNA. I have heard good things about the 1760 router so I found this deal on ebay...

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It looks like a good deal but I would like to get two of them that can be upgraded to 12.4T. From my understanding of other posts you need to have 160MB Ram to do this and not all of the 1760's can be upgraded to this. I contacted the seller and they have stated that the manufacturer date is June of 2003. It does have the white "32F" on the front.

Can anyone confirm or deny that I will be able to get 12.4T on these routers?

On a side note even if it is not upgradable to 12.4T, do you think this is a good deal?

Surprised no one has answered this. I've been lurking around the forums and it looks like if it has the "32 F" above the Ethernet port then you're good. All you'll need to do is max out the RAM and you will be able to install 12.4 on the 1760.

I have a small pile of 1760s with 96D in them and they have the 32F in white on them. I ordered 2 128MB DRAM chips as a test to see if I can get them to recognize the 160 megs and load IOS 12.4T. Couple of days and I'll know what the deal is with these 1760s.

If you can't get the router upgraded to 12.4T then I would bail and fall back to a 2600XM.

Yes, you can upgrade it to 12.4t. Just make sure the router was made after 2003 and supports the additional 32m flash. You can determine this by looking at the front above the ethernet port, there should be a black square with 32f in white. I have two of these. Using them as part of a CCNP lab. You may have to upgrade the memory also. I did, not sure if it is required though.

Even the ones without the box with 32 can run 12.4t , just max out at 144MB or 160MB ram.

Look at feature navigator and check the platform and ios you want to run to see how much ram is needed
Cisco Feature Navigator - Cisco Systems

only advanced ip and advanced ent services need 160MB
all the other 12.4t require 96/128.

A bunch of great responses on this thread already but I just wanted to mention that this router has a single Ethernet port. As long as you're aware of this limitation and it doesn't affect your lab setup you're good but I wanted to throw this out there just in case.

If you do plan on going after the CCIE (R&S) after the CCNP the only place you might be able to use this is as one of your backbone routers. This is because most of the CCIE training providers (IPexpert, INE, Cisco 360) require two FastEthernet interfaces per router within their topology's.

Otherwise like everyone else stated you should be able to run 12.4 just fine once you max out your memory.

If you do plan on the CCIE track after the CCNP consider purchasing some 2600XM's like mike stated above ^

just put in a wic2t and a wic1ent(only 10 Mbps but gives an extra port)
    Can get wic1ent's from $10
    Or get a wic4esw 10/100 - for 4 network ports, seen wic4es go from $40

    1751/1760's are usable for voice.
2600xm's are a bit more flexible than 1760.
3600's are fairly flexible but limited by available ios versions
3725/45 are similar to 2600xm's/3600 but more capable and noisier
1841's are less flexible (can't be used for voice only pass thru) , have 2 FE and, getting cheaper but still around $150 to $250 mark for the cheapest. quiet , power efficient.choice of wics or hwics

Just understand that the 2600XM's that end in 0 only have one Ethernet port as well (2610xm, 2620xm etc) The ones that end in 1 have two.. There are ways around this, but if it is important to you get a 2611XM 2621XM etc

I just put a 128MB Dimm in my 1760 and the sh ver is seeing 192M of DRAM. Going to give it a couple of hours to see if it's stable. Then to find a good 12.4T IOS to put in it. After that if all goes well I have 3 more 1760s to do. Probably going to sell 2 of them to get cash for things like WIC-2Ts, cables, a rack and other nifty lab accessories.

Sounds good...how much are you going to try to get for each one?

What do you think I could get for a 1760 with 192D/32F With a VIC-2FXS, WIC-1DSU-T1, PVDM-256K-4? I am hoping to get $70 each or $130 for both out of it. Probably do better to sell both together so the shipping isn't a killer.

Here (Australia) 1760's with 64D/32F go from $50 to 70 without wics.

For yours I'd say at least $100 each.
Could try selling them together with cable for the T1, console cables, pwr cables as a ready to run lab pack ?

Maybe. I could throw in a 2950 switch and call it a mini lab.

Just upgraded a 1760(it has the 32F in white letters above the FE port) to ios 12.4T c1700-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.t14.bin. Previous version was 12.3T, it recognized 192M of DRAM, after the upgrade it only recognized 128M of DRAM. I am seriously confused as to why this would be. I have 64M onboard and a 128M DIMM. Why would a 12.4T IOS call for 160M DRAM and only recognize 128M. I still have to figure out how to load CME 4.1 onto this as well. Anyone know what the deal is with this?
