Vmware Olive serial question?

I built out my first Olive in vmware today, just for fun. Then the instructions say to map it to your serial port...

Is there a way to emulate a serial port to I can just putty locally? Or am i out of luck? I really want to avoid buying a pile of PCs.

I like binding them to a tcp port so you can just telnet to the console, select Use Network -> Server -> Port URI -> [url]telnet://:23001[/url]

And then if you're using esxi 5 make sure the firewall allows network serial connections (above port must be above 1024)
