Does it ever "annoy" you that recruiting agencies exist?

I've had good luck with agencies. Many were just non-productive but once I found a good one they provided me with a stream of temp gigs all of them pretty nice. Fill in help desk/projects for Universities and private sector. It's worth checking some of the smaller offices that specialize in professional services. They often have return customers and once they know you, they will recommend you to their best clients. Those jobs will not be found searching online. Between those gigs and the ones who you see posted everywhere, one could stay busy for years if needed until something perm came along.
