Arp cache

I've got another practice exam question. It asks what utility is used to display the NIC's cache of MAC addresses. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether "NIC cache" represents a relevant term or did they mean arp cache and there is no such thing as a NIC cache in the real world? If it is a used term, is it synonymous with arp cache or does it have another meaning? Just wondering because I had difficulty finding the term NIC cache but arp cache is all over the place.

Never heard of it called a NIC cache....... but my guess would be for ARP cache.

its ARP cache, hewever there is NIC cache. it related to iSCSI

Good research sys_teck. Too bad they didn't date their article.

RoyalTech, I'd say they meant ARP cache. The only utility I can think of that displays a list of MAC addresses in cache is arp. The addresses are cached by the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and the test question writer may have been trying to avoid using the term "ARP" in the question.

That was my guess. It was my understanding that the arp cache was stored in the hard drive though and not the on the NIC so this makes very little sense. Of course, that wouldn't be the first time one of CompTIA A+ or N+ questions made little sense.
