Spanning Tree Scenario

Can somebody just clarify for me how switch B would reach the root bridge (switch A) in this scenario?

Would it be through it's directly connected interface or would it go from B - D - E - C - A?

    10 + 19 + 19 + 10 = 58 < 100 (direct connection)

I'm studying STP at the moment too. Based on the costs in the diagram, the path would be B-D-E-C-A. Based on link costs, the direct link to switch A would be a 10M connection where the others would be 100M or faster.

My thoughts exactly, although my lecturer at university who has a CCIE was saying otherwise, he was saying that a directly connected switch has a cost of 0. But i have read a few cisco books that say it does use the cost and just wanted more clarification

    Thanks

A connected route has a AD of 0, when you deal with routing tables.
    Maybe he got confused.

You don't need to get a 100% on the written or lab to get a CCIE! :)
