Looking for a new e-reader

Yesterday the screen on my Kindle 3 got frozen and I was not able to fix it with the standard hard reset. This is the second time this happens, the first time the device was still in warranty so Amazon replaced it, but now I can't relay on that and I'll probably have to buy another one. Does somebody know if the new Kindles have the same issues with the freezing screen which seems to be quite common with the previous generation ? Or it'll be better to chose another brand altogether ? Can you recommend me some ?

By the way I was thinking to open the kindle and to remove the battery. Do you think this might have any effect ?

I have had the Kindle fire for about 3 months and love it. If i was to complain about anything it would be the keyboard isn't all that great but it doesnt bother me that much.
