Jobs with Network+

Hi
I had been studying for my CCENT but I have been very busy and work and have really been struggling to get a decent amount of Labbing done. Anyway I'm pursuing the N+ and having the CCNA as a long-term goal as I just want to get a few certs ASAP. I intend to get the S+ after as at work I can get away with reading but not really labbing I hope to be earning around the £22k in the next few months I have about 5 years help desk experience and about to years very basic network and general IT windows 7 and server 2008 experience. Is it possible to hit my targets? I would also love to do some work abroad at some point soon

I hear you
It's just the CCNA is going to take me a while I tried to rush the CCENT through as I really wanted a cert on my C.V but it just was not happening at the speed I wanted.
its really just a short term thing to help me get some extra cash either at my current job or elsewhere as I need to move out of my parentsGoals for 2013 Network+ [x] ICND1 [x] ICND2 [ ] -
joshmadakor Member Posts: 495 ■■■■□□□□□□Please get CCENT instead of N+ if you can. It's so so much better than N+ and you will be part of the way to CCNA after you get it. If that's not an option then good luck! Just my 2 cents.WGU B.S. Information Technology (Completed January 2013)

dazl1212 Member Posts: 377I'm quite sure I could get the N+ done inside a month whereas the CCENT I am some way off and I just want to have a Cert on my C.V.
As I said I need a wage increase ASAP. Thanks for the replyGoals for 2013 Network+ [x] ICND1 [x] ICND2 [ ] -
kurosaki00 Member Posts: 973The only reason I would tell people to get Net+ is if you DONT have basic understanding of general networking concepts and tasks.
Basic tasks and knowledge in the system/network scope are stuff like whats IP, mac, whats a subnet, how to configure network printers, how this works, how that works.. etc
If you know basic systems and networking, skip it and go for CCENTmeh -

There are some gaps in my knowledge thats for sure. Its just as I said I need to get something down asap and I still think I'm someway off being ready for the CCENT. Are people basically saying that the N+ will not help me to get a better paid job?
I also believe that the Security+ would be required if I was to try and get a position abroad?Goals for 2013 Network+ [x] ICND1 [x] ICND2 [ ] -
dazl1212 Member Posts: 377Bump and to add I have had a read through some of the material for the N+. Although I am not far off pass standard there are definitely some decent gaps in my knowledgeGoals for 2013 Network+ [x] ICND1 [x] ICND2 [ ]

YuckTheFankees Member Posts: 1,281 ■■■■■□□□□□I personally would focus on the CCENT/ CCNA but I'm not going to lie...I have multiple interviews for NOC II jobs within the next week or so..and they actually listed the Network+ as a certification they are looking for (both companies had it on their job post).

This.
The rub here is that Network+ seems to be more marketable, and you'll see it on the requirements list for job postings. This is strange to me simply because Network+ is more about the protocols and a general overview, while CCENT actually covers exactly how data traverses the network and even a solid foundation for configuration. Of course not every shop is a Cisco shop.
I'm about 90% through my CCENT studies and part of me wishes I would have skipped Network+; however Network+ was a condition of my current employment, so on that hand I'm glad I have it. -
boredgamelad Member Posts: 365 ■■■■□□□□□□Having my Network+ has laid the foundation for all my Cisco studies, to be honest. I am glad I have it--even if it doesn't make me vastly more marketable, the knowledge I gained studying for it has been quite valuable both in my current studies and my job.

Kai123 Member Posts: 364 ■■■□□□□□□□With no networking knowledge I enrolled on a CCNA course and failed.
I started to try and learn at home and failed. After a year, I started studying for the A+, just to learn how to study at home. I passed the A+ and the Network+ was very easy because of the CCNA (I failed the ICND1 by like 5 points).
The Network+ will make the ICND1 so much easier. With the CCNA, you are applying the core principles of networking to what Cisco wants you to know on how to run their equipment which makes it so much harder to learn. With the Network+, you are learning the core principles only.

This is what I was asking I am still going to do the CCNA but that is a long term goal as my networking experience is quite limited to say the leastThis.

dazl1212 Member Posts: 377Just an update.
Thanks for all the advice I should have listened.
After starting back my N+ studys within 3 weeks I had gone from 2 hours a day 5 days a week to about 10 mins a day.
For whatever reason I just can not get motivated to study for the N+ whether its too easy or not, I don't know I just seemed to really enjoy the CCENT so I'll be going back to that.
As I said I should have listened.
Well its a lesson learnt I guess.Goals for 2013 Network+ [x] ICND1 [x] ICND2 [ ]
